Born and raised in a small Kansas town, Pops embodied the quintessential American dream – a good education, a beautiful wife right out of college, and the expectation of a nuclear family. However, beneath this facade of normalcy, Pops battled an internal war. He hid his attraction towards men, fearing the judgment and ostracization from his tightly knit community.
In the quaint community of his youth, there was no room for exploration, no scope for questioning, and no understanding of being different. The lack of resources and fear of exposure kept Pops closeted, suppressing his true feelings until they could no longer be ignored.
The journey to acceptance wasn’t easy, but today, Pops is happily committed to a loving relationship of 30 years. His partner, affectionately known as Grandy, is an integral part of our family, participating actively in family functions, celebrations, and events.
